The makers behind ‘Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web’ showed the trailer for their new web series at a Mumbai event on Wednesday. Neeraj Pandey has directed it featuring an ensemble cast of Emraan Hashmi, Amruta Khanvilkar, Sharad Kelkar, Nandish Sandhu, and Zoya Afroz. The actors and makers talked about the show and what fans can look forward to in this crime story.
Emraan Hashmi teases his role
Talking about his character Arjun Meena, Emraan chose to keep details under wraps and said, “I don’t want to give away much about my character right now. I want the audience to experience it for themselves,” he said. In the writing of the show, the actor added that Taskaree is packed with surprises. “The way the show has been written is very interesting. There are many unexpected moments built into its DNA. It’s a thriller, and Neeraj ji is known as a master of the genre. There are a lot of strong cliffhangers throughout the series”.
Amruta Khanvilkar to make action debut
Amruta Khanvilkar, stepping into action roles for the first time in the series, plays a gritty, sharp-witted woman from Mumbai’s streets. “I play a badass Mumbai girl who works in customs and can read people instantly,” she shared. She highlighted the intense physical prep needed, adding, “This is the first time I have done action, and there was a lot of physical preparation involved”.
Sharad Kelkar plays villain
Sharad Kelkar disclosed that two main reasons led him to accept the villain role. “The first is Neeraj Pandey, and the second is the story. Both are among the best in this genre,” he said.
Nandish Sandhu on complex role
Nandish Sandhu described his character as complex and full of emotion. He shared, “Every person is slightly conflicted within themselves. The character I play works in a space that demands intelligence and strategy, but he is also big-hearted. The way Neeraj sir has presented all the characters makes it a pleasure to watch”.
Neeraj Pandey takes a funny jibe at Emraan Hashmi
During the event, Neeraj Pandey got laughs by joking, “Making a family show with Emraan Hashmi is quite a challenge, and we managed to pull that off.” Emraan smiled and replied, “I also controlled myself for the show”.

‘Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web’ follows a committed customs officer and his squad as they battle an infamous smuggler running a crime ring, facing surprise hurdles along the way. The series drops on Netflix on January 14.
