Hungama, Dhoom, Golmaal, Phir Hera Pheri, Johnny Gaddar, these and many other popular films from the early 2000s have one thing in common: Rimi Sen as the female lead. There was a time when she was everywhere. From her Coca-Cola advertisements alongside Aamir Khan to sharing screen space with Salman Khan, Rimi was one of the most recognisable faces of that era, and it seemed like she could do no wrong. However, as the decade drew to a close, her presence on screen began to diminish. Film appearances became fewer, and eventually, she stepped away from the limelight altogether. Today, Rimi has taken a decisive turn in her professional life, fully transitioning away from acting and becoming actively involved in the real estate space in Dubai.
Speaking about this transition, Rimi opened up about how welcoming Dubai has been, not just to her, but to people from across the world, including those from the film industry. In a conversation with Buildcaps Real Estate LLC, she said, “Dubai is very welcoming, which is why 95% of the population here consists of expatriates, while the rest are Emiratis. Dubai has welcomed everyone warmly, there are mosques here, there are temples too. They think about everyone, and the city’s major focus is on how to make people’s lives better, easier, and more comfortable. This is something we don’t really see in our country, because the government keeps changing policies overnight, making people’s lives more difficult. There are thousands of taxes, endless complications, and it is no longer a business-friendly nation.”
Talking further about why the real estate market functions better in Dubai, Rimi added, “The real estate market here functions smoothly because there is discipline. You have to work only with agents and agencies. Developers do their work, agencies do their part, there is a proper system in place.” She also pointed out the stark contrast in how property agents are perceived, saying that in Dubai they are treated on par with financial consultants, while in India the perception is very different: “In India, if you ask for two months’ brokerage, people look at you as if you have committed a crime.”
Rimi Sen on Plastic Surgery
Around two years ago, Rimi found herself back in the spotlight after her photographs resurfaced on social media, leading to speculation that she had “undergone plastic surgery” and now “looked unrecognisable.” Addressing these rumours in an interview with Hindustan Times, she clarified, “If people feel that I have had plastic surgery, and if they feel that in a good way, then it’s very good for me. Without even getting plastic surgery done, people are still talking. I have only had fillers, botox, and PRP treatment done, nothing else.”

She also shared that she is open to getting a cosmetic procedure done later in life, saying, “One shouldn’t need to get plastic surgery done unless someone is on the run after committing a crime! There are so many excellent doctors outside India who are very good at facelifts. I too want to get it done, but I will think about it after I cross the age of 50. For now, these treatments are sufficient.”
Responding to those criticising her appearance, Rimi added, “Maybe people saw my latest pictures and felt that my skin looked good. Anyone can look good by using these treatments and maintaining discipline. But if you think what I have done is bad, then tell me how I can correct it, so I can tell my doctors where they are going wrong.”
Rimi’s last film appearance was in 2011 in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s actioner Shagird.
