‘Shark Tank’ star Barbara Corcoran reveals WHY she faked her death, and it’s all things hilarious

Real estate mogul Barbara Corcoran pulled off an unforgettable birthday surprise for her 70th by hosting her own ‘funeral.’ For ten suspenseful minutes, she lay inside a coffin as her friends shared tearful tributes, believing they were honoring her memory.

On her 70th birthday, real estate mogul Barbara Corcoran did something so mischievous that it became the “best party of the century” for her. The ‘Shark Tank’ star faked her death by lying still in a coffin for ten minutes. Barbara did the hilarious prank only to turn the tables on his friends, who were planning a surprise party for her.

Why Barbara Corcoran faked her death

After Barbara found out that her friends were throwing a surprise party for her, the now-76-year-old decided to pull a prank on them. “I had the best party of the century, no doubt about it,” Barbara told Damien Scott of Boardroom. “My friends were going to give me a surprise party, and I got wind of it from my good girlfriend. So, when Liz told me they were planning a surprise party, I said, ‘I’m going to turn the tables and surprise them,’” she revealed.

How Barbara Corcoran pulled the prank

The 76-year-old said all her friends were upstairs at her house waiting for her to return from the airport, and her brother told them that she would be entering her house from downstairs. “They walked into the living room and found me dead in a coffin,” Corcoran revealed. “I had set up the whole room as a funeral parlor, the chairs, the nuns, the priests, the rabbis, everybody there. And they all said what they liked about me, thinking I was dead, and what they didn’t like about me.“But the best response came from the entrepreneur’s daughter Katie, whom she and husband Bill Higgins adopted in 2005. “She was only like 9 at the time,” Barbara remembered, “and she said, ‘When do we get the money?’”“But you know, everybody talked about me,” she added. “How many people, if anyone, do you know who hears what people say about them after they’re dead? I got to hear it all.” And the TV star reiterated that her guests had no idea it wasn’t a real funeral.“I could hear the gasps,” she said. “I had my eyes closed, and I didn’t move a second. Everybody was aghast that I was dead. They really thought I was dead. And I lay there dead for ten minutes. It was great.” And the reveal was just as good, as Barbara shared that she “got up and danced.”“I looked beautiful,” she said. “I had my makeup done.”

Some people thought she actually died

While it was all a joke, some people outside of the party thought Barbara had actually died. “The following morning I went down, and my doorman told me I was dead,” she shared. “That it appeared all over social that I had died.”“But I thought that was my best report card,” she added with a laugh. “Even the DJ was dressed as a priest. It was fun.”And that was one memorable birthday for both the host and the guests!
