Adolescence’s Stephen Graham reveals how he lost his first-ever Golden Globe award just hours after winning |

Stephen Graham won the Golden Globe award, and then lost it!Stephen Graham just won his first Golden Globe, and then, classically, managed to lose it within hours. Graham, the British actor behind the critically acclaimed series ‘Adolescence’, had a wild night at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards. He took home Best Actor in a Limited Series, which is a huge deal. But before he could even settle into the moment, the award slipped out of his hands, literally, thanks to a travel nightmare that left fans everywhere shaking their heads and laughing a little.

How it all went down

Stephen Graham’s big win for ‘Adolescence’ at the Golden Globes, Los Angeles. It’s packed with stars, everyone dressed to the nines. Stephen Graham, who’s been knocking it out of the park on screen for years, steps up and finally gets his moment in the spotlight. He co-created, wrote, and starred in ‘Adolescence’, a series that dives deep into family, memory, and all the messy stuff that comes with growing up. That night, he earned the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Limited Series, and honestly, it felt overdue. On stage, after he received the much-deserved accolade and award, he thanked his wife, Hannah Walters, calling her “one of the best producers ever” and admitting, “You saved my life.” In his words, “I’ve said it before, but you saved my life. You saved my life. And to my two beautiful children, Grace and Alfie, I love you to the moon and back forever.”He dedicated the award to his parents, to his friends, to everyone who’d helped him get there. “My dad, my pops, my hero, and I would just like to dedicate this particular award to my mom and all my friends and family. You all know exactly who you are. Without you, none of this is possible,” he said.

The curious case of a missing award: How the Globe went missing

Winning’s great. Losing the trophy right after? That’s something else. But Graham experienced that as well. Whathappened was, he had to fly straight to Madrid for another job, and he barely had time to breathe between the show and his flight.“I had to go straight from L.A. to Madrid because I had to be on set the next day,” Stephen revealed during his interview on the UK radio show ‘Capital Breakfast’. “I had like 35 minutes to catch the plane. It’s a next-level kind of thing. As I come off, a woman stood there with my name and she took me down the stairs, threw me in a car and drove me across the airport runway.” So the next thing he knows — he’s on the go, but his suitcase (with the Golden Globe and some more stuff inside) isn’t. While recalling the whole mess, Graham sounded half-amused, half-exhausted as he listed what was in the bag: “my socks, my pants, my toothbrush… and a Golden Globe.” Apparently, the trophy was too heavy for carry-on, so it went in checked luggage. Not the best plan.He tried to warn the airport staff. “Excuse me, love? There’s no way you’re getting my suitcase on this plane if I’m in a car now.” She promised they’d handle it, but, of course, the bag never made it. Stephen reflected on the conversation, “and she’s like, ‘Oh no, don’t worry. We’ll take care of it.’ I was like, ‘No, you don’t understand,’ and she went, ‘I promise you, I promise you.’ Anyway, it didn’t land.” Turned out, it got stuck in Atlanta during a layover. The award was missing. For two days, Graham had no idea where his Golden Globe was. He’d just won the thing, and it was gone. Luckily, the bag (and the trophy) finally showed up, a little battered but safe. Relief doesn’t even begin to cover it.However, this whole won-and-lost saga ended with a happy reunion. It was Graham’s first Golden Globe, after all. Besides, the award night was a pretty big one for ‘Adolescence’, too: the show hauled in a total of four awards, and Owen Cooper, who played Graham’s onscreen son Jamie, even became the youngest actor to take it home for Best Performance.
