The hugely popular series Bridgerton is gearing up for its much-awaited Season 4, set to premiere on January 29, 2026. This time, the spotlight shifts to Benedict Bridgerton, played by Luke Thompson, as the new season explores his romance with Yerin Ha’s Sophie. In a recent interview, the actor opened up about stepping into the lead role after spending three seasons as a supporting character.

Luke Thompson on stepping into the lead role

Luke Thompson admitted he didn’t feel nervous about leading the show. Instead, he felt ready for the moment, crediting the timing of the opportunity. Speaking to HT City, he said, “It’s only excitement, actually. I was very lucky to get probably the most generous timing in terms of getting used to the world of Bridgerton and getting used to filming on camera, as I had not done that much work on screen before. The world of being on a set is so complex and it takes a while to make friends with it.”

He added, “By the time of Season 4, it was perfect for me to take the lead and for what was going to come next. I felt very lucky to be in a position where I just felt excited. I didn’t feel any nervousness—I was just ready and looking forward to the adventure.”

On receiving the same love as past ‘Bridgerton’ leads

With previous leading men from the franchise turning into global sensations, Luke is aware that similar attention could now be directed at him. However, he remains grounded. “I am curious about it, because I don’t really know how it’s going to be. It’s very hard to gauge it, on some level, from a slightly detached point of view,” he said.Emphasising the importance of balance, Luke added, “I think if you can set a really clear boundary between the public you and the private you, you can actually enjoy the attention for what it is.” He also reflected on the deep emotional connection fans form with the show, saying, “People see all sorts of things when they watch the show. They project stuff onto you, and that’s sort of what being an actor is. You want to live in people’s imagination—and what a great thing to be able to do that.”

Chemistry with Yerin Ha

Luke described working with Yerin Ha as a meaningful and fulfilling experience. Calling it “rich,” he spoke about how the storyline allows their characters to grow across varied settings. “What’s lovely about the show and this particular storyline is that there are so many different contexts—whether it’s the ball, my cottage, or the Bridgerton house,” he said. “Our characters get to explore so many sides of their connection.”
