Prabhas film earns over Rs 158 crore

The Raja Saab Worldwide Box Office Collection Day 3 Update: Maruthi’s horror comedy The Raja Saab, starring Prabhas, has largely gotten negative reviews, and that’s started to reflect in the film’s domestic box office. While the film crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in India within its opening weekend, it is a relatively modest feat for Prabhas, who has delivered some of Indian cinema’s biggest blockbusters—both domestically and worldwide.

On Sunday (day 3), The Raja Saab had earned Rs X crore. That’s a drastic fall from its Saturday (day 2) double-digit earnings of Rs 26 crore. That was also a more than 51% decline from its opening day figure of Rs 53.75 crore across five Indian languages. Add to that, the Rs 9.15 crore earned from the paid previews in its native Telugu version, and the film now stands at an opening weekend collection of Rs X crore at the domestic box office.

The majority chunk of this figure comes from the Telugu version, which earned over Rs 90 crore at the domestic box office over the opening weekend. This was followed by the dubbed Hindi version, which earned around Rs 6 crore, followed by the dubbed Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam versions, respectively.

Prabhas’ lowest opener in four years

For Prabhas, however, the near-Rs 100 crore opening weekend at the domestic box office isn’t a great feat. For instance, his last release, Nag Ashwin’s 2024 dystopian sci-fi action thriller Kalki 2898 AD amassed almost as much on its opening day that The Raja Saab has managed to garner in its opening weekend. It had an opening weekend collection of over Rs 220 crore across all languages at the domestic box office.

His 2023 action thriller Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire, helmed by KGF director Prashanth Neel, also amassed over Rs 200 crore within the opening weekend at the domestic box office. Even his much-slammed film Adipurush, directed by Om Raut, managed to earn over Rs 215 crore in its opening weekend earlier that year.

Prabhas’ last film, which earned lower in its opening weekend than what The Raja Saab did, was Radha Krishna Kumar’s 2022 action romance Radhe Shyam. That movie earned only Rs 90 crore in its first three days of release at the domestic box office. Prabhas’ highest opening weekend grosser remains SS Rajamouli’s 2017 action fantasy epic Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, which amassed Rs 304 crore across languages at the domestic box office.

Prabhas’ unprecedented record

Even though The Raja Saab struggled to cross the Rs 100 crore mark within its opening weekend at the domestic box office, it achieved that feat at the worldwide box office within its opening day itself. The movie opened at Rs 112 crore globally, making Prabhas the only Indian actor to score six films which opened at more than Rs 100 crore at the worldwide box office.

The Raja Saab barely made it to that list, ranking at the bottom. The top five spots are secured by Adipurush (Rs 127.50 crore), Sujeeth’s 2019 action thriller Saaho (Rs 130 crore), Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire (Rs 158.10 crore), Kalki 2898 AD (Rs 177.70 crore), and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (Rs 214 crore), respectively, in the ascending order.
