Could Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson return to WWE and insert himself in a major storyline in time for WrestleMania 42? Some wrestling fans seem to think so after spotting what they feel was a clue teasing his comeback during a segment on Monday’s (March 23) episode of Raw.
Johnson was last seen on WWE programming during John Cena’s heel turn last year, although he decided to skip out on WrestleMania 41 in a move that confused most fans and left many angry. His long absence has since been the topic of frequent discussion on social media, especially given his heavy involvement in major storylines in the past couple of years.
Perhaps the wait for The Final Boss’s reemergence is almost over, at least that’s a theory gaining steam after his image was spotted in the background on Raw.
Johnson’s visage popped up during a backstage segment involving The Usos and LA Knight. Earlier in the show, Knight had come to the aid of Jey and Jimmy during a match against The Vision. The brothers ultimately lost the match after Jey was disqualified for knocking out Austin Theory with Logan Paul’s brass knuckles.
An argument ensued between Jey and Knight over the use of the weapon, with the latter accusing Uso of sounding like Roman Reigns.
Though the scene was notable for the ongoing drama surrounding all those directly involved, it’s what was happening in the background that caused the speculation regarding a potential big return. A production truck with a large photo of The Rock was visible throughout the entire segment, and the camera lingered on Knight’s face in front of the image after The Usos left the area.
“This is usually a hint about what WWE has in store for the near future,” one fan wrote on X (Twitter).
“It was a very smart placement and it would be an outstanding surprise if The Rock turned up at Wrestlemania,” another X user wrote of the segment.
With WrestleMania fast approaching, The Rock could easily slip into a number of storylines. He could return to involve himself with the original members of The Bloodline as The Usos have become involved in Reigns’ feud with CM Punk. Johnson could also try to right the ship of the wayward MFTs under the leadership of Solo Sikoa.
Maybe Johnson is not going to entangle himself with his family’s affairs at all. Maybe, just maybe, he was on the other end of the phone call Randy Orton placed on SmackDown. After all, The Rock still hasn’t collected on Cody Rhodes’ soul.
What do you think? Is WWE setting the stage for The Rock’s return? Would you be excited to see him again, and who would you want to see him target? Let us know in the comments.
