Pawan Kalyan’s Ustaad Bhagat Singh Is Not a Theri Remake; Theri Was Inspired by Gabbar Singh

Pawan Kalyan’s Ustaad Bhagat Singh is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on March 26, 2026. Expectations are high for this mass entertainer directed by Harish Shankar. Amid ongoing speculation that the film is a remake of Vijay’s Theri, Harish Shankar addressed the rumours in a recent media interaction.

The director firmly dismissed the claims and clarified that Ustaad Bhagat Singh is not a remake. “I am the one who remade and openly added ‘changes by’ in the title card for Gabbar Singh. Rajamouli garu even called me and said that was the point where he began enjoying the film,” Harish said.

He added, “Why would I take credit for story, screenplay, and direction if this were a remake of Theri? It is not a remake. Since it is a cop story, people may draw comparisons with Theri, Temper, Gabbar Singh, and others. But that does not make it a remake. In fact, the anthyakshari scene in Theri was inspired by Gabbar Singh. So why would I remake something that was borrowed from my film?”

The film stars Sreeleela, Raashii Khanna, Parthiban, Ashutosh Rana, Gautami, Naga Mahesh, Temper Vamsi, and Avinash in key roles. Devi Sri Prasad is composing the music for this much-awaited project.
